The rustle of dedications and the whisper of determinations eminent from the grim faces of Olympians... simply reflect their strong states of minds, each and everyone of them possess. Winning is made out of sweats, blood and tears, not only in the gym, the tracks or the pool, but really, it applies everywhere else even in our humble lives - to win and be successful, we simply have to have the 'want' and desire to achieve our goals.
Most of the time, we may only 'feel' the hours of gruesome practices they had to endure (by judging from those well-toned muscles, those body silhouette we secretly wish we have), but what many of us don't 'see' are the sacrifices and the silent supports from their partners and family. Staying in world-class tip-top shape means focusing on staying in world-class tip-top shape. When in focus, the mind sharpens to only one thing and everything else have to pale in comparison, otherwise it is called multitasking, not in focus. So, without the family's help, how else can they stay in control, in focus? There is no way they can stay on the high-performance state, if after each practise then kena marah for coming back late to help bath a fussy baby, kena marah because didn't wash milk bottles, kena marah because forget to pay the bills?
Thus, tributes to the supporting roles of the wives/husbands/parents are not to be forgotten....
They are the reasons the Olympians are able to focus on their sports because these people settle everything else in their lives for them.
Imagine if their wives didn't believe in them enough and said "lets stop stressing yourself over, why are you stressing yourself here when there are many other things you can do...like help me make the baby sleep" and didn't understand their loves for the sports... and kept pestering for them to be home more often...
Imagine if their passions for the sports got buried because their parents only think that they are just playing the sport and kept nagging them to "go read the book! Study first, play later. Playing can't guarantee you and your family meals".
If that scrawny kid didn't have these people who unconditionally support and believe in him, we may not have our beloved Dato LCW today. If he didn't have these people by his side who love him and understand his love for badminton, he would probably just grow up and be another scrawny man in his 30s, playing at local badminton court every Tuesdays and Thursdays until 60years old, while working a mediocre job in a local company.
Thanks to his parents and family, the one and only Dato LCW is able to, not only brings glory to our nation, but whenever he plays, he magically unites us. I don't know why but whenever he plays, it gives me such sense of pride to be able to 'yayyyyy!!!' when he scores and breathe a relief when he manages to save. Watching a game with other strangers in a public area is even more exciting! Adrenaline pumps unforgivingly while watching the shuttlecock fast-shooting across the net, rooting for the same person to win and sharing the same goals (for Dato LCW to win... and *ahem the ensuing public holiday the next day doesn't hurt)....is totally awesome... Tell me I'm not the only one! Hahaha.... I want to thank Dato LCW for his hardwork and his family for kinda-allowing that to happen.
Reading all the inspiring stories of Pandelela Rinong, Azizulhasni, Joseph Schooling (from our neighbour country) and the likes, this Olympics make me realise that if you dare to dream, big things can really happen to you! Honestly, I do not know why only this year's Olympic I strike this enlightment, maybe because now, I witness it all from a parent's point of view. Or because many of our people actually made it! thus striking it closer to heart...
But anyhow, even if this post is bit late (I left my beloved MacBookAir back in my hometown the whole of last week), I would like to congratulate all Olympic winners, all Olympians who manage to even enter the Olympics and all of our Malaysian Olympians - thank you for a great performance and thank you for all your efforts and hardwork! You did well and we are so very proud!
It is exhilarating to watch you play,
As it is nerve-wracking to watch you play.
It is an honour to witness you make history,
A glimpse of hope, a bouquet of glory.
Thank you, Olympians,
And their family.
And their family.
